We use a time-out method for dogs that display undesirable behaviors.

  1. We will lead “Sparky” and our daycare supervisor will hold “Sparky” on a leash until he settles down, once he/she is relaxed we will reintroduce him/her back  into play
  2. We will put “Sparky” away in a time-out run if unwanted behavior continues (we will do this multiple times if needed)
  3. If undesirable behaviors continue – “Sparky” will be put away for the remainder of the morning or afternoon.

To ensure your dog is comfortable in a group environment, we require a one-time behavioral assessment session to observe him or her in a play-all-day group. This assessment is a very important step to ensuring your dog’s safety, the dogs in our care, and our employees. The assessment is done by our staff members trained in managing large groups of dogs.

A non-refundable $10.00 fee, plus the cost of a one-day pass ($40), is charged at the time of application. An assessment does last a full day. We ask that you drop your dog off between 7 AM- 9 AM and then pick it up between 5 PM- 7 PM. Also, assessments are done Monday- Friday only; we do not take assessments on weekends, statutory holidays, Christmas break, or during March break. The assessment does have to be pre-booked, as we don’t take walk-ins. For dogs to be able to do the Daycare program, they have to be fully vaccinated (four months of age or older).

The assessment session proceeds as follows:

  1. Before we assess your dog, we require you to fill out an application form that includes the dog’s history, including socialization and any known issues. You can fill this out at home and email it to us or fill it out upon arrival.
  2. Book an assessment time with the front office. Assessments are done Monday- Friday by appointment only.
  3. On the day of the assessment, your dog will first be assessed on how he interacts with our staff.  To assess his social skills with other dogs, we slowly introduce your dog to a dog with outstanding social skills. We assess his body language, play behaviors, and how he reacts during the first interaction. If your dog passes, we slowly integrate him into one of our playgroups according to your dog’s play style. Please keep in mind that the Play-All-Day program is not for every dog. Your dog may be a social butterfly at home, but some simply become overwhelmed by a large group of dogs. If your dog does not fit into the Play-All-Day Program, he will be removed and placed in our day boarding suites program. In this program, your dog will receive individual attention and individual play from our guest services attendant, or he may be assessed by a smaller group of dogs in our suites program at staff discretion. Please note: We do not keep collars or leashes on the dogs for safety reasons. Report Cards are given on the first day only.

Daycare Assessment Form

Please fill the daycare application out. Bring the daycare application along with proof of vaccinations with you on the assessment day
Application: Form here
* All reservations for the assessment day must be pre-booked; we do not take walk-ins.

K9 Central’s cut-off age for intact males is 6-8 months, or at staff discretion. This is for the safety of your dog and all dogs in our care. Unaltered males release a certain amount of testosterone that other male dogs will take as a challenge that can trigger fights, putting all dogs in the program at significant risk of injury.

Unspayed females can do daycare if they are not about to start a heat cycle, are in heat, or have recently finished a heat cycle. This is for the safety of your dog and all dogs in our care.

  • If you have your dog(s) reserved for daycare and don’t show up as scheduled we will be charging you for the day of daycare and/or taking the day off your dog’s daycare pass. The reservation must be cancelled within 24 hours of the booking.

Half of K9 Central’s play yard year-round enjoys beautiful, soft canine grass. The dogs love it because it’s easy on their paws and it’s cool and clean. The artificial grass is permeable, so any urine drains through the turf surface, and feces can be removed easily. The other half is gravel which can cause your dog to get muddy (depending on the weather).

Note: we do our best to send your dog home clean.

K9 Grass

For the safety and well-being of our guests, basic immunization policies and preventative measures are in place.

** A copy of the Immunization Certificate for required vaccines must be submitted upon check-in. K9 Central reserves the right to turn away pets that cannot provide proof of vaccinations ** All Required vaccines must be up to date**

Just like children in a group playtime situation, if one dog gets sick, they all may get sick. Simple procedures to keep dogs healthy and safe. By following these simple procedures, we all do our very best to keep our dogs healthy and safe. But despite all our best efforts, some may become ill. Please notify us immediately if this occurs so that we may guard against infectious spread of the disease to our other guests. In the unlikely event your pet becomes ill while with us, we reserve the right to seek veterinary care for which you, the owner, will be fully responsible. If we are unable to make arrangements with your veterinarian, we will contact our veterinary service.

To ensure the safety and health of your pet and our other guests, we require all dogs staying overnight to be up-to-date on the following vaccinations:

Required Vaccines:

D – Distemper (A)
H – Hepatitis (B)
P – Parvo (B)
P – Para Influenza (A)
R – Rabies (1-3 years)

Optional but recommended vaccines:

L – Lepto (Optional) (B)
G – Giardia
B – Bordetella (Kennel Cough – Should be given at least 7 days prior to staying with us to be effective)

Bordatealla (Kennel Cough):

Kennel cough is a fairly common ailment in dogs and is caused by an airborne virus. Just like children often contract colds by being exposed at school or camp, dogs often contract Kennel Cough by being exposed wherever dogs can be found. Just as is the case with the human cold, we cannot get rid of Kennel Cough altogether. The vaccine is only approximately 60 % effective. It is similar to the “flu shot” for people; each year, a vaccine is developed based on which strain(s) are suspected to be most prevalent, but there are many other strains of virus out there that can cause a dog to develop Kennel Cough. Be aware that your dog can still catch Kennel Cough even if s/he has had a shot to prevent it. Moreover, a dog can carry the illness and spread it to others without displaying symptoms itself. Therefore, for the safety of our other guests, we do not allow dogs that are presenting with kennel cough symptoms to stay at K9 Central. It is an optional vaccine at K9 Central but we highly recommend it prior to bringing your canine companion in. For more information on the vaccine, we urge you to talk to your vet.

Flea Prevention:

Some form of flea prevention treatment from your veterinarian, such as Advantage” or Revolution,” is an absolute must. Fleas can be spread very quickly from one dog to a group. We pride ourselves on never having had a flea infestation. This is why we insist on a flea prevention program for your dog and why we thoroughly clean our facility daily and flea spray in high flea seasons.

Conjunctivitis:

A form of pink eye, conjunctivitis can result in a green/yellow discharge from the eye (although some dogs just have the “red eye” look). Any dog that is showing symptoms of this illness will not be allowed to enter a group play environment. (Note: If you notice any of these symptoms you may want to take your dog to visit their vet).

Dog drinking water

Some useful tips for Dog Owners!

Drinking Water

Your dog will be very excited upon arriving home. Excitement leads to thirst. Give your dog only a small amount of water or ice cubes in the first half hour. Do not allow your dog to drink a large amount of water as this may lead to stomach upset.

Feeding

Please ensure your dog has a cool, quiet place to rest before being fed or engaging in any strenuous activity. We do not recommend feeding your dog for at least one hour after returning home.

Rest

Your dog may be too tired to play with you when he or she arrives home. Often dogs seem lethargic or “stiff” and generally this is normal. They have played with their friends all day, everyday. No worries. Your best friend will be back to being your energetic buddy in a day or two.

Licking Paws

It’s common that dogs will lick their paws after a visit with us. The licking of the paws is usually associated with the pads being sore from running around all day. The pads can sometimes develop blisters (generally uncommon) but this usually goes away in a day or so.

Book a Grooming Appointment

Playing, chasing balls and each other, jumping in and out of the pool, and having general doggie fun, what can we say, your dog may get dirty! Before your super dog goes home, we do try to towel them off and give them a quick brush. Yet even with this once-over, inevitably they will not be as clean as they were on their arrival. We suggest booking a bath or grooming appointment for your best friend’s departure day. Our dog grooming packages guarantee keeping your ultimate K9 feeling and looking great.
